Governor James Ongwae has assured the Kisii business community of a favourable environment to enable them thrive.

Speaking during a dinner meeting with the business community in Kisii town on Wednesday, he urged the businessmen in the area to invest in the county saying there was ready market for their products.

"We have several opportunities in Kisii county in agribusiness, mining, horticulture and hospitality. Existing businesses have done well but nobody prevents you from expanding into larger scale, we could not move ahead without the support and the input of the business community," said Ongwae.

They lauded Ongwae for the street lighting project and opening up of backstreet areas they say were previously unattractive for any business undertakings.

However, they asked the governor to reorganise roadside and itinerant traders (hawkers) in the town to ease congestion.

"Congestion, disaster management and lack of land for expansion are some of the challenges hindering investment in this county. If these is addressed a good environment will be created," a director of Imperial Academy in Kisii said.

They proposed that the Daraja Mbili Market be allowed to operate on a daily basis to reduce the challenges caused by hawkers.
