Independent Policing Oversight Authority (Ipoa) vice chair Jedidah Ntoyai has said the body is working to build trust between citizens and police.

Speaking during an Ipoa workshop in Eldoret town on Tuesday, Ntoyai said Kenyans have been fearing police officers due the torture they have experienced in their daily interactions with the armed officers. 

"As the independent policing authority we are mandated to ensure that the police do not harass arrested suspects,"she said . 

She said the authority also ensures that police officers do not use force when calming demonstrators or arresting people. 

"This body also ensures police professional code of conduct is adhered to and also investigates deaths and serious injuries caused by policemen during duty," she said. 

She further advised members of public to report any misconduct by police officers to the relevant authorities and the law will take its just course," she said. 

"We get paid to ensure justice is done to members of public who have been harassed by officers, therefore you should feel free to report such mistreatment," she said.
