Chang'aa brewers from Itumbe Location, Sameta sub-County have been challenged to quit the business, and instead embrace economically viable activities that can facilitate them access funding from the government-sponsored kitties.

Henry Mirera tipped illicit liquor brewers on the importance of identifying economically viable activities that can attract funding from the government, instead of engaging in chang'aa trade, which he said led them to the trap of crime and poverty.

Speaking at his Resource centre office where he received officials of women groups applying for loans from Uwezo Fund, Mirera challenged the officials to take the message to other women in the local communities to come for the loans, to finance their income generating activities instead of playing hide and seek games with law enforcement agencies in the fight against chang'aa and other illicit brews.

“I am commending you for coming to apply for the Uwezo loans, since this is your money and it is meant to transform your lives and your immediate family members,” he said.

“I am sending you to preach to your fellow women to quit the chang'aa trade and come for this money to facilitate them venture into economically viable activities which do not put them in trouble with law enforcement agencies,” stated Mirera.

He reminded local women dealing in the illegal trade that they were engaging in dangerous ventures, which could land them in jail if caught.
