Farmers in Kabete have urged the Kiambu government to find new markets for their produce.
Speaking at Kimbo Hall, Kabete Farmers Union chair Duncan Kimani said farmers were struggling to get good markets for their produce.
He said the situation was discouraging farmers, noting that some have cut down on their acreage and ventured into other businesses to fend for their families.
He now wants the government to help them find markets outside the county to reap maximum profits.
"Farming requires a lot of commitment. We do a lot of work to ensure good produce. Despite the good produce, we don't have sufficient markets for our produce. All we are asking from our county government is for it to find new markets. This will motivate us to continue with our hard work," said the chairman.
He urged area MP Ferdinand Waititu to address their grievances to ensure farmers benefit from their hard work.
He added that such situations have demoralised youths against farming because they don’t see profits in the venture.
Peninah Kang'ethe said farmers need support from both the county and national governments by expanding their market to assure them of good profit for their labour.
Kang’ethe who spoke after the meeting, said she harvested over five sacks of beans but only two are sold.
She said this has made farmers keep switching the type of farming just to settle for the produce that are marketable.
