Governor William Kabogo has refuted claims that he is siding with brewers in the county, slowing the fight against illicit brews.
Speaking on Thursday when he led the county liquor board in destroying illicit liquor at Kang'oki on Thursday, Kabogo however faulted the MPs who, according to him, politicised the issue leading to the damaging of people’s property while conducting their raids.
On Monday, Juja MP Francis Munyua accused Kabogo of siding with bar owners and manufacturers of illicit brews in the county.
He said that leaders who defy the President’s orders are not worth holding office. He said that Kabogo is using the issue to politic around as MPs in the area have partnered to eliminate the menace.
“Kabogo is the issuer of the licenses to these people and he is afraid that they will demand for their money after the licenses were revoked. He shouldn’t be in office if he cannot heed the president’s directive,” Munyua said.
He added, “These people are manufacturing poison and they should stop. Let them come for Uwezo funds and do other businesses as we are not relenting on this issue even if they go to court.”
The MP was conducting the final day raids in Witeithie, Nyacaba and Mirimaini in Juja Constituency. Over 13,000 litres of a spirit dubbed ‘Rest In Peace’ were impounded in a pastor’s home.
Munyua added that they needed more time to fight the brews in the area saying that the four days were not enough.
He said that when the President gave the directive, the brewers and manufacturers hid their alcoholic drinks which gave them a hard time searching for them.
Munyua also called on Devolution CS Ann Waiguru to fast-track launching of the NYS initiative in his area to make sure the reformed youths have something to do to keep them from drug abuse.
