Governor William Kabogo has pledged to improve the living standards of people living in slums within Kiambu County.

Speaking from his office on Thursday when he met the International Centre for Alleviation of Poverty Executive Director,  Ann Kariuki, Kabogo said that Kiambu is rich in all aspects and he believes that if utilised well, the wealth can boost residents' lives.

He added that the lives of people living in slums received heightened attention immediately the slum upgrading project commenced in Kiandutu, Madharau, Umoja and Gachagi slums, all of which are in Thika sub-county.

Kabogo called on Kariuki to consider working hand-in-hand with the county government in eradicating the poverty that has befallen the residents of some parts of Kiambu and thus prioritise the investments that could boost their lives.

The governor has vowed to ensure that every resident in the slums in Thika gets electricity saying that he has been holding consultations with the National government officials to spearhead the agenda.

“Kiambu has a lot of investment opportunities and we welcome you to invest here as well as work with us in ensuring the people of Kiambu live a better life than they are living at the moment. Plans are underway to give them room for job opportunities as well as tenders where possible as we are not convinced with the current state of life they are living,” he added.
