Education Cabinet Secretary Prof Jacob Kaimenyi, chairman of the Law Society of Kenya Erick Mutua and the Vice Chancellor of Moi University Prof Richard Mibey have been urged to step down from their jobs for failing to 'take charge' following the closure of Moi University Law School earlier this week.

Led by Benard Ng’etich on Thursday while addressing the press in Nakuru, the lawyers, who are also members of alumni community of the institution strongly criticised the move to close the institution, and called on the leaders to resign from their duties for failing to play their role adequately.

"This is a shocking move by the council to send more than 1,500 students home in an institution which has produced a number of high profile lawyers in the country. It is therefore high time for the president to take lead and fire Kaimenyi, he cannot manage our children in primary and secondary sector and it also appears that he cannot manage education matters in the Universities and Colleges" Ng’etich lamented.

While also citing dissatisfaction with the council management, Ng’etich called on LSK chairman Erick Mutua to immediately resign.

"We also call upon the chairman of the Law Society of Kenya Erick Mutua to step aside because he is contributing to the collapse of legal sector in this country," added Ng’etich.

The members also asked the University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Richard Mibey to leave his office for mismanaging the University.

"Vice Chancellor, Prof Richard Mibey has served the institution for around 10 years and it is high time that he resigns and gives way for another leadership" he went on.

The closure of the institution earlier this week has left over 1,500 students in jeopardy on the future of their studies, as the institution still remains closed.
