Kathiani MP Robert Mbui has asked politicians in the Ukambani region to unite in readiness for the 2017 general election.
Speaking at Miumbini trading centre in Kathiani on Friday, Mbui said that leaders in the Ukambani region have to unite ahead of the general election.
He said that disunity will deny them an opportunity to be part of the next government.
The MP noted that disunity and wrangles among leaders has in the past made them lose opponents.
“If we want to make an impact in the forthcoming general election, we must unite and also unite our people,” said Mbui.
The MP noted that Ukambani has the potential of producing a president.
He said that what ails the region is selfish and personal politics which is the cause of the many problems facing the people.
“No one will ever take Ukambani leaders seriously if we do not unite and focus on one goal,” he said.
The lawmaker also asked region leaders to work together and formulate a manifesto that will woe voters.
He said that time is running out and that the leaders in the region must come up with proper strategies.
Mbui said that this time they will not allow themselves to be 'used', saying that the region has leaders with the potential of heading the country.
At the same time, the MP wants governors in the region to share ideas and help promote development.
He said that for the region to develop and achieve its development goals, leaders will have to work together.
The MP lauded Machakos governor Alfred Mutua for his development efforts and urged him to share his ideas with other governors.
The Kathiani legislator said that Ukambani can become an economic force and hub if leaders endeavor to work together.
