Residents of Mavoko subcounty have been advised to keep off public land.

Deputy County Commissioner Kodeck Makori told residents of the subcounty to avoid being cheated by fraudsters purporting to be selling land belonging to the government.

Speaking to hivisasa.com on Thursday at his office, Makori said residents who have invested in public land will forfeit their investments as the government embarks on repossessing land fraudulently allocated to private developers.

"For the sake of not losing your investments, do not invest in public land," Makori said during the Thursday interview.

"We do not want what happened to investors at Syokmau to happen again."

According to Makori, members of the public should have learnt from the past when people lost property after government demolished houses at Syokimau estate to reprocess public land grabbed by private developers.

He spoke as the government faces a challenge repossessing public land owned by private investors.

The opposition has challenged the government to crack the whip on government officials selling public land to private investors.
