The Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) will build five industrial parks at the Olkaria power plant in Naivasha in the next two years, managing director Andrew Mugo has said. The industrial parks, which have already been designated for five different parts of the expansive Hell’s Gate national park, are intended to attract businessmen in the area and those from Nairobi. Speaking during a tour by financial analysts at the power plant, Mr Mugo said KenGen will distribute power to companies operating in the industrial parks at a cheaper rate. “We have already set the sites for areas that are easily accessible by roads so that companies can send their goods to Nairobi easily.

It will also be easier to export materials manufactured in the area due to the lower power tariffs,” he added. Mugo indicated that several companies had already expressed interest in getting land allocated in the area, adding that the industrial park will host industries manufacturing different products within the same locality. “We will give the first priority to local industries then give slots to other international companies. We want to build our local brands first before we have the international ones,” he added.
