Kiambu County Governor William Kabogo has said the county government will introduce taxes on rental houses and apartments.

Addressing residents in Ruiru on Wednesday, the governor said his government needs more revenue to fund county projects because the money they are getting from the national government is not enough.

He said the administration had decided to widen the tax boundary in order to enhance the county's revenue position.

Kabogo said the county government needs money to fix some facilities including roads and drainage systems, thus the need to introduce taxes to those who have not being paying, landlords included.

The governor said all landlords should adhere to the new regulation or else their houses will be closed adding that they will soon be notified of the amount they will be required to pay.

The county boss warned leaders in the county against politicising the matter saying that landlords have to pay taxes just like other business owners in the county.

"We have decided to introduce taxes so that we can get revenue to implement projects which will benefit the people," said Kabogo.
