A kiambu real estate entrepreneur has challenged Kiambu leaders to help reformed addicts by providing them with economic support to prevent them from reverting to alcoholism.
Speaking on Wednesday at Kikuyu Law courts, in Kiambu County, after paying a Sh22,000 fine for 11 youths who were arrested protesting in support of CS Ann Waiguru, James Githua challenged leaders to roll out plans to help youth to generate income.
“Kiambu leaders should do everything to help recovering alcoholics by providing them with material support to enable them lead a better life. Leaders have a responsibility to ensure that youth have something to do instead of going to the streets to demonstrate,” said Githua.
Githua also urged leaders to step up the fight against consumption of illicit liquor among youth.
“Leaders should step up their effort in the fight against alcoholism and drug addiction among the youth,” said Githua.
He added that there is need for all players in the fight against illegal alcohol to empower youth economically by starting income generating projects for youth to discourage them from going back to alcoholism.
He further urged the county government of Kiambu to equip all rehabilitation centres with proper facilities.
He noted that unless all rehabilitation centres are well equipped, the gains achieved in the fight against alcoholism may be eroded.
