Residents of Kiambu County have been encouraged to apply for Identity Cards (IDs) in a bid to partake in more nation building activities and consequently register as voters at various centres across the county.

Speaking on Friday in Kiambu, Kiambu TNA coordinator Gladys Chania, reaffirmed the need for all Kenyans to acquire necessary documents and participate in key transformative activities.

“The high number of youths we have in the county who have not applied for IDs is worrying. It is important to acquire all necessary documents so you can be recognised as a registered Kenyan and consequently register as a voter," said Chania.

She added: "We need more voters in the coming elections as well.  Registering will also help the government in monitoring the number of citizens to aid in national planning."

Chania also confirmed that the hitch in applying for the IDs that was formerly experienced has been solved.

“There was a  reported shortage of necessary materials needed for the issuance of identification documents but it has been solved. We are also planning to establish more centres for application of IDs and registration of voters to effectively and efficiently conduct the exercise, she said.

She added: "We therefore need every citizen to take advantage of these services that have been brought closer to them.”

The coordinator added that the services will be offered in several forthcoming public-motivated activities including a medical camp in Limuru that will be held on Saturday.

She urged the members of the public to turn out in large numbers.
