Kiambu Director of Alcoholic Drinks Control Board, Machal Kange'the has refuted allegations that the county government is issuing liquor licenses without following due process.
Kange'the denied claims that over 3,000 liquor permits have been processed and issued to bar owners.
“Kiambu County has issued 1,019 liquor licenses contrary to claims that over 3,000 licenses have been issued,” said Kange'the.
Speaking on Monday at Makwa Trading Centre, Gatundu North Constituency during a public meeting with local residents, Kange'the said that the county government will respect the public's verdict on the number of bars they would like to have.
“The county government of Kiambu will listen to public views on the number of bars they would like to have before issuing the liquor permits,” said Kange'the.
He reiterated that the county government is committed in the fight against illicit liquor and urged members of the public to rally behind it to make the operation successful.
“Kiambu County government is not turning back in the fight against second-generation drinks. The county government has taken keen interest in the on-going fight against illicit liquor and we are carrying out due diligence in issuing liquor permits,” said Kange'the.
Kange'the said the issue of crackdown on lethal liquor has been met with heated opposition from some 'barons' and urged them not to drag politics in the operations.
“There are some powerful individuals going around politicising the issue and I urge them to keep off from the operations,” said Kange'the.
He also thanked Kiambu residents for their involvement in the on-going operations and urged them to step up their efforts in a bid to make the nation an alcoholic free nation.
