Kiambu County is on the verge of rolling out a programme that will ensure farmers and other residents plan adequately following meteorological information.

The county's department of agriculture, livestock and fisheries and the Agriculture Sector Development Support Programme in conjunction with the meteorological department are working on a programme that will allow participatory scenario planning.

This arrangement will assist farmers who are the most directly affected by changes in weather and climate information, to understand and convert the information into socio-economical benefits to improve livelihoods.

Speaking during a stakeholders meeting in Kiambu, the county director of meteorological services, Mary Githinji said that the information from the meteorological department is expected to immensely assist the departments of agriculture, livestock and roads.

"They will be able to advise farmers and other residents on measures to take to reduce risks that come with different rainfall patterns," she said.

Githinji said that information will be especially useful to the agriculture department as its officials will be able to give tips to farmers on what crops to plant depending on the amount of rainfall expected.
