Kiambu deputy governor Gerald Githinji has urged Kiambu youth to cultivate a culture of saving.
Speaking on Thursday in Kiambu Town during a meeting with a section of bodaboda operators, Githinji said saving would enable youth to initiate several projects that would help them improve their livelihood.
“Saving should be encouraged among our youth to enable them contribute to the growth of the nation and improve their livelihood," said Githinji.
Githinji urged the operators to form Saccos to facilitate their pursuit of creating wealth.
“Bodaboda operators should come together and form a Sacco that will ensure they enjoy financial services with ease," said Githinji.
He said that he personally mobilised bodaboda operators to start contributing money on a daily basis.
“Our bodaboda operators started by saving Sh20, Sh50 and then Sh100 till they had enough money to start a project," said Githinji .
Githinji said that Kabogo's administration has been in the fore front of addressing the challenges affecting the youth.
“Kabogo has set aside finances to empower youth. He has donated over 60 green houses to all wards in Kiambu County to empower youth," said Githinji.
He said that the pilot projects were set up in a bid to enable the youth to be self sufficient.
“The youth used the greenhouses to grow tomatoes to help them improve their living standards," said Githinji.
He added: “The pilot projects have proved successful after the county's administration took over the marketing of the youths' produce," said Githinji.
Githinji however warned politicians against dragging politics into youth affairs as this would stall many projects.
