Kiandutu Chief Daniel Waiguru has been suspended after the death toll from the illicit brew consuming in Thika rose from four to seven on Wednesday.

The number of those admitted in different Thika hospitals further rose from formerly 5 to 9 after four men in Witeithie fainted and one of them died in Kiandutu level four hospital while receiving treatment making the situation more worse.

Thika west Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Jeremiah Gicheru said that the chief has been lazy and didn’t inform the area Administration police officers on the existence of a brewing den in the area thus he is the one to take the blame.

He further condemned the bar owners selling illegal alcoholic drinks despite knowing that they might be dangerous to the public health and thus risking the lives of the consumers.

He has said that the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) officials conducted a workshop for bar owners, wholesalers and retailers of alcoholic drinks earlier to ensure they eliminate the counterfeit and non-licensed drinks thus they should have barred the drinks from getting to the public with the help of the validators issued to them.

Kiambu county governor William Kabogo has reiterated that the administration officers that are accused of laxity by the public should be suspended or even sacked immediately and give room to those willing to work with effectiveness.

Kabogo was speaking in Kiambu county assembly when he addressed the assembly on Wednesday.
