School heads and teachers in Kibera have hailed MP Ken Okoth's efforts to support education standards in the slum.

Speaking at a meeting at DC area on Monday, the teachers said the Kibra MP has impacted the lives of Kibera children through sponsorship of free examinations, a move that has helped them improve in class work.

Okoth has been organising inter-school exam competitions for schools as he seeks to improve performance and education standards in the slum.

“These exams are given to us freely. This shows how the MP values education and how he wants slum children to shine nationally,” Douglas Ekina, a teacher at Ayany Primary School said.

Other teachers said they take the competitions seriously as they use them to prepare students especially candidates for their national exams.

“He is a good leader. He has taught me good leadership skills. As a teacher, I have learned to work with all kinds of people, just the same way he does,” said Douglas Ekina, a teacher at Ayany Primary School.

According to Ekina, the exams also help bring teachers together when the schools compete.
