A section of Kiganjo residents in Thika want Kiambu County health and environment departments to take action against landlords who have failed in managing waste in their plots.

Speaking to HiviSasa.com on Friday, the residents said that some landlords in the area have failed to contract the county-licensed garbage collectors to regularly empty their bins.

"They only know how to collect rent but care less about the health hazards they are exposing us to when these bins go for months without being emptied," said Hannah Waithera, a resident in Corner One.

A spot check to most plots showed that many bins have since been filled up and waste was now scattered all over.

"It is not just material waste, but we also have a problem with waste water management. Many of the plots do not have septic tanks and sewage stagnates outside the plots," Jackson Otieno said.

In June this year, the county government ordered landlords in the area to provide residents with collectible wastepaper bags which many are yet to comply with.

"We are aware of such a notice but we have never been provided with those bags," said Kevin Mbugua.
