Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wa has called on Kiambu County government to empower and recognise youth in the society to ensure they don’t feel neglected.
Ichung’wa said that failure to recognise the youth has made most of the young people in Kiambu to turn to drug abuse thus dying at tender ages.
He further said that unemployment leads to idling and the leaders are to blame for the same as they don’t hire anyone without experience thus youth are locked out of jobs.
“You can’t advertise for a job and ask for three year experience yet most of the youth have been jobless since they left school. Leaders are the cause of these problems facing the youth,” said Kimani.
He called on both the county and national governments to consider the youth when advertising job opportunities saying that a single step in elimination of unemployment will solve the problem of alcoholism.
The legislator condemned the brewing of illicit brews in the area. He said he had exposed the youth in his area to empowerment programmes and he is sure they won’t go back to their bad ways.
"Youths in Kikuyu are focused and ready to build their future regardless of the challenges they are going through. I have done my best to empower them including purchasing motorcycles for them," said Ichung'wa.
