Private schools in Kikuyu on Monday continued with normal learning activities despite the government's decision to close all schools as the teachers' strike hits fourth week.
In a spot check by HiviSasa in the area, several private primary schools registered normal attendance in clear defiance to the order by the Ministry of Education.
The head teacher of Grace Academy in Kikuyu, Francis Gitaru says the decision is unfair to students and pupils in private schools.
He said that pupils needed to complete the syllabus adding that private schools were in no way involved with the ongoing strike and as such learning was going to continue as usual.
Gitaru revealed that the attendance at the school was normal and parents and teachers had agreed school to continue learning activities as usual despite the announcement by the Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang.
He said he expected operations at the school to run smoothly without any interference saying they were operating legally.
The Principal of Good Samaritan High School in Ondiri, Fredrick Odhiambo said that school was running smoothly. He says they are yet to change their calender for the third term.
However, he revealed that the attendance was not 100 percent due to the announcement but said that he expected the absent students to resume immediately.
Odhiambo said that private schools had no reason to close down schools and they would run as usual.
"We are still a long way to go for this term to come to an end. The government is acting in a dictatorial manner which isn't right, they should solve their problem and stop interfering with education all over the country," he said.
