In an effort to uplift education standards in Kikuyu, several women groups in the area have joined hands to renovate classrooms and also build more.
Speaking at Give Hope hall Wednesday, Women Development Sacco chairlady Diana Njeri said most schools in the area lack facilities that at times result in poor performance in national exams.
The chairlady said some of the schools need to be re-painted while others lack enough desks causing children to sit on the floors.
Some classes are too congested hence are not conducive for learning while other schools need sporting facilities.
She said 16 women groups have joined forces to help renovate the schools and urged the public to join them in the project.
"We have come together with one agenda, and that's to renovate schools at the grassroots. This will kickoff at the end of November when schools close so that we do not interfere with school programmes," said Njoki.
She accused the Kiambu government of doing little to support the schools stating that poor facilities had also lead to poor results.
She asked Governor William Kabogo to chip in and help renovate other schools within the county.
