Nakuru County public health officer, Samuel King'ori has cautioned the residents against defying an order requiring them to stop using the filled cemeteries across the County. The Naivasha and Nakuru North Cemeteries are unable to withstand more bodies and there has been claims earlier by the residents that old graves were being replaced directly by new graves in the cemeteries.
King'ori said that the efforts by the public health department to secure a place to construct a new cemetery have been in vain since people have not shown interest in selling them the land. King'ori added that they had issued a notice on June to residents not to bury their loved ones on the cemeteries.
"We issued a notice on 21 June this year and those going against it will be fined Ksh 1,500 per grave,"he said. He revealed that all the cemeteries in the County are expected to be full by the end of this year and people should look for alternative places to deal with the situation.
