In an effort to curb crime during night hours, bodaboda operators in Kinoo have vowed to work closely with the police to end the menace.

This is after one of their colleagues was arrested last week for allegedly attacking and stealing from his passenger late in the night and then escaped.

Sacco chairman Lewis Ndung'u said the only way to avoid suspicion is to work with the police by reporting incidents of crime in the area which happen during the night.

He spoke Monday at a meeting at Kinoo grounds aimed at enhancing good morals and discipline among the operators.

He said in their line of work especially at night, they witness many criminal activities which they should report to the police.

The chairman, however, said bodaboda operators will also be monitored to ensure they are not involved in crime.

He said they stand to lose as police had warned them they would ban their night operations if they engage in crime or collude with criminals.

"We shouldn't hide these criminals; we are also endangering our businesses if we engage in crime. The way forward is to report any criminal activities we witness to the police," said Ndung'u.

A bodaboda operator who spoke after the meeting admitted that during the night hours, a lot of criminal activities take place but feared reporting to the police for fear of victimization.

He revealed that police action to arrest anyone who reports crime to them makes bodaboda operators to shun from going public.

However, he vowed to report any incident he witnesses as police had vowed to cooperate with them.
