The Kisii County government will offer Artificial Insemination services for free to livestock farmers.
Speaking at the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) show which is underway in Kisii on Friday, the county Governor James Ongwae said that it was a combined effort with the ministry of agriculture to ensure that all residents benefit from improved modern breeds and increased livestock productivity.
The governor urged farmers to seek technical advice on animal rearing as a way of making informed decisions in purchases and other related livestock maters.
"There are agricultural extension officers in every sub-county from whom you can get valuable information to guide your rearing. When they organize training seminars you should attend,"said Ongwae.
The governor further disclosed his plans to see the county major on farming saying its strategic position and good climate poses a great advantage to make high agricultural yields.
"We are here to make a farmer feel appreciated and that's our mandate as a county government. I urge every participant to learn something from the agricultural show," he said.
The governor also expressed his confidence with the security forces and assured exhibitors and visitors of safety.
