Kisii County government has been challenged to take a leading role in ensuring that the 30% tendering allocation for women, youths and persons with disabilities succeeds.
Speaking during a youth congress on Monday morning at Kisii county hall, Kisii county assembly nominated MCA Grace Ogonda said if the directive is fully embraced, the unemployment facing majority of the youths would be dealt with.
She added that the county government should honour the pledges in facilitating the youths to get the tendered contacts in the counties.
Ogonda added the idea of the government setting aside the 30% tender allocation to women and youths was try and create gainful opportunities, which can empower the youths economically.
The leader also noted that the National Construction Authority has taken up the challenge of educating Women and youths in the counties on the tendering and procurement procedures, which previously hindered many of them from getting involved.
Grace said the process has also been made easy, and encouraged women and the youths not to shy off, and instead take advantage and demand for the contacts.
She however, urged various county governments to look for ways of ensuring youths and women who are awarded such contracts are also able to get financial support for the implementation of the projects.
