Kisii County residents have been challenged to embrace the community policing initiative in a bid to fight crime and enhance security in the community.
Speaking in his office on Thursday, Kisii Probation County Director, Oribo Kinyosi underscored the importance of local community members embracing the community policing initiative to fight crime and assure themselves of security at the community level.
Kinyosi challenged local communities to ensure the policing initiative is strengthened and morally supported to enhance security in the region.
"I am challenging local community members to embrace the community policing initiative and ensure it is supported to enhance security in their immediate communities," said Kinyosi.
He however, warned community policing members against overstepping their mandate by meddling in domestic disputes.
Kinyosi advised the members to instead focus on the duties within their mandate and leave those beyond them to be dealt with by the relevant authorities.
This comes amid accusations against some community policing members over their involvement in domestic disputes and land conflicts, duties which do not fall under their mandate.
