Secondary school heads have been urged to stop sending students home over fee arrears saying it compromises their study time hence poor performance.

Kisii County Parents Association chairlady Isabelah Nyakwama, said instead parents need to discuss with school heads on how they can settle the arrears.

She said head teachers need to consider a child’s education instead of putting money as a priority, noting that there were better ways of getting money and still letting students continue with their studies.

“Many students especially girls lose lost focus while out of school and end up being lured into other things. This can only be solved if all education stakeholders come on board in finding a lasting solution,” said Nyakwama

She spoke during the St. Charles Lwanga Gesero Secondary School.

At the same time, she took issue with the parents who fail to pay fees in time even when they are able to do so, adding that their actions do affect their children’s studies.

She said it was the responsibility of parents to take care of their children from engaging in activities which are detrimental to their lives.

She challenged professionals to realise that they were duty bound to protect and respect the rights of children.
