Kisii governor James Ongwae has challenged boards of managements and school administrations to embrace modern rain water harvesting technology to ensure they have adequate water supplies in their institutions.
Ongwae regretted that having water challenges in schools disrupted learning programmes as students were forced to walk for long distances in search of water to the detriment of their education and curriculum delivery.
He noted that this was leading to poor performance in school based assessments and national examinations.
Speaking at St.Paul's High School-Amasago during the School's education day, Ongwae who was responding to the school principal, Innocent Mogunde's appeal for assistance from the county government to fix a water challenge facing his school, directed that a borehole be drilled in the school compound to address the institution's water challenges.
The Governor also directed that a 10,000 cubic litres water tank belonging to the county government at Keumbu be taken to the school as a short term measure to assist in rain water harvesting, awaiting the drilling of a borehole by the government.
"I am directing my officers to ensure a 10,0000 cubic litres water tank lying here at Keumbu be brought to this school as a short term measure to assist the school administration do rain water harvesting to address water challenges in the school," said Ongwae.
