Kisii University is set to honor renowned scholar and academician, Prof Joseph Nyasani by building a multi-million hall to celebrate the scholar’s contribution to society.

Nyasani, who currently works as a travelling professor besides teaching at the University of Nairobi, was the was instrumental in the establishment of the institution in 2008.

Speaking at the institution on Thursday, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of academics, Prof Maurice Amutabi said plans were underway after the management agreed to honor the academician.

“Nyasani has left an indelible mark not only at Kisii University but also in many institutions that he has taught. He is such a great leader and the institution will remember him with a big hall. His continued association with the institution has brought more recognition to us even beyond borders,” he said.

Amutabi urged academicians to emulate the scholar who he termed as the ‘best ambassador’ Kenya has never had.

“As academicians, we can achieve little if we don’t emulate him. He is such a great leader and the ambassador Kenya has never had. He represents the country exceptionally when he makes public lectures across the world,” Amutabi said.

The hall is set to replace the old Sagini Hall that is named after Kenya’s first Education Minister and the only man from Kisii in the 15-man Cabinet that Prime Minister Jomo Kenyatta formed the year Kenya got her independence in 1963.

Nyasani, who teaches philosophy at the University of Nairobi, holds an international press card and is also a media trainer with the Media Skills Development Centre.

He recently donated a land to the institution where the school of medicine will be built.
