A senior United Republican Party (URP) official in Kisii County has called for an audit into the procurement department at the ministry of Devolution over the accusations of financial improprieties facing the ministry
Speaking to Journalists in Kisii town on Monday, branch executive member, Engineer Henry Orang'i said only a full audit will shed light on the controversial hacking scandal Cabinet Secretary for Devolution Ms Ann Waiguru is grappling with.
“We can only get to the bottom of the matter if the procurement department was investigated. It is high time departments took responsibilities of whatever mistakes they make. Ms Waiguru, as much as she is the cabinet secretary in charge the people in charge of procurement, she should be probed,” said Eng. Orangi.
There has been public uproar for the last one month after information leaked out that devolution ministry was on the verge of losing more than Sh800 million to fraud.
“How does CS Waiguru come in without first conducting an audit into the procurement department which should be the first action to be taken in any alleged scandal? We need to learn to respect departments and be held accountable when things go wrong,” posed Eng. Orangi.
Ms Waiguru, last week faced the Joint Finance Labour Relations Committees of the National Assembly to answer to the allegations.
The exercise was however marred by acrimony from parliamentary members that attended.
He further warned some members in the county for purporting to be party branch leaders.
“I am the official recognised URP Kisii branch leader. The people purporting to be leaders should respect current holders of the office,” said Eng. Orangi.
