Kisumu County Assembly members are discussing a motion calling for investigation into the misuse and mismanagement of county vehicles.
The motion by Nyalenda B ward representative Mr James Were claimed most of the county vehicles were used to carry unauthorised people adding that they were operating beyond the working.
Were questioned the use of all county vehicles including ambulances and lorries which are used for collection of waste and other machinery.
He said that the county recently acquired a fleet of vehicles and, therefore, there was need for vehicles to be managed properly to help cut on cost of fuel and maintenance due to wear and tear.
The motion, which was tabled on Wednesday afternoon, noted that the vehicles are sometimes seen in public joints at night and this does not mean well for the county as the image of the county needs to be protected
Were suggested that drivers or public officers who violate the rules and mismanage the vehicles should be reprimanded or surcharged.
He said police officers should be instructed to clump down the vehicles found at odd hours without letters authorising their use at odd hours.
Members of the assembly supported the motion and said the mismanagement of county vehicles should be looked into.
The matter was referred to the transport and finance department to investigate the claims, write a report with recommendation and present it to the assembly within two weeks.
