Kisumu city is set to host its annual fashion week for this year beginning September 5.

The Kisumu Fashion Week will provide a platform for creative designers to showcase their art work and talents.

The annual event organised in Kisumu is aimed at creating awareness about the fashion industry.

It is expected to open networking opportunities for local designers, fashion students, stakeholders, surrounding communities and the media.

This year’s Fashion Gala event will be held at the TuffFoam Mall third flour from 8pm to 12pm on September 5.

The event’s marketing and communication officer Mr Felix Odhiambo said the show is on its fourth edition after three successful events since 2012.

“The preparation is in top gear in collaboration with the county government. We want local and foreign designers to showcase their art to enthusiastic fashion lovers,” Odhiambo said.

He said nine designers from various towns including Nairobi, Kisumu, and Busia are expected to showcase at this year’s event.

Kisumu based artistes Edu Bla, Yawa Dancers among others will be performing. Odhiambo said 15 models, 10 female and five male will participate.

The event has been sponsored by KLIP-MUF, Kisumu county Government, KMET, Orange Kenya, Page concepts, Aleki Alex, LIPS Barbershop and Saloon, Pankies Hotel and Techno Mobile

It will be graced by Ms Rose Nyamunga, Kisumu County women representative, Kisumu Central MP Mr Ken Obura and County executive for Tourism and Heritage Dr Rose Kisia.

Other county government officials, key investors and business owners among others are also expected to attend.

This year’s theme #TheRise represents Africa rising, evidence that Africa has reclaimed its position on the global map through economy and culture.

The goal is to promote Africa rich talent especially in Kenyan beauty and culture through fashion.
