Kolwa East Ward MCA John Osumba Olum has asked county executive for health to curb cholera outbreak in Kisumu.
Speaking to Journalists at the Kisumu County assembly on Thursday, MCA Olum asked to the county CeC for Health Elizabeth Ogaja and Chief Officer Dr Ojwang Lusi to take the cholera outbreak in the county seriously.
"Let them release the emergency funds to move drugs and set up mobile clinics to deal with the cholera outbreak," said Olum.
He added: "There is outbreak of cholera in my place. One person has died of cholera and three admitted at St. Elizabeth Hospital."
Former deputy majority leader said he fears that the outbreak might spread to neighbouring wards like Ombei and Miwani. He asked the county department of health to act with speed and disseminate drugs in the health facilities in Kolwa East.
"I fear areas in Nyaimbo, Buoye, Maenya and Masawa which near river Marnya will be most affected, especially when rainy season comes," said Olum.
Chief officer for Health Dr Lusi confirmed one person died of cholera and three admitted at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.
In an interview Dr Lusi said 17 people were admitted at Kombewa Sub-District Hospital in Kisumu County.
