A man was on Sunday evening arrested by Police in Maseno for being in possession of marijuana with a market value of Sh10,000.

Confirming the incident, Maseno area Chief Harrison Tiko said that Police were acting on a tip off from the public.

“Officers received information from the public about a man who was carrying marijuana which we suspect was meant to be sold in Kisumu town,” said Chief Tiko.

The man Martin Ombongo, Maseno area resident was arrested along the Kisumu-Busia highway while on a motorbike ferrying the marijuana stashed in exercise books as a way of concealing its identity.

According to Chief Tiko, the suspect has been arrested previously with similar charges but later released due to lack of evidence.

Chief Tiko added that Police had intensified the fight against drugs in the area and all those who indulge in the vice should be a worried lot because adding that the law is soon catching up with them.

“I take this opportunity to warn all those in this business to quit this illegal business. Marijuana and illicit liquor are our main problems and we are not leaving anything to chance,” added Chief Tiko.

He commended the public for always being on the lookout in the fight against drug menace in the area. The suspect is expected in court on Monday morning.
