Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura has urged youths in Nyawita area of Kisumu to stop listening to cheap politics and instead embrace the National Youth Services project for self-development.
Speaking on Friday at Nyawita market, Obura blamed Senator Peter Anyang' Nyong'o for criticising National Youths Service project and associating it with rising crime rate in Kisumu.
“I warned Senator Nyong'o over interference with NYS project in Kisumu. I told him to leave the youths alone to push on with the project,” said Obura.
He promised youths within Nyawita that he will help reinstate the NYS project, saying he will hold talks with the national government to return the project to the people of Kisumu.
He added that the project will spread to Manyatta estate in Kisumu East to benefit youth in the area as well.
Obura called on the NYS beneficiaries in Nyawita to join Saccos in order to save money to help them in opening up businesses in future after the end of the National Youths Service project.
“Let us join the Sacco. This will help you to establish a business of your choice after the project is gone. We have to eradicate poverty in our land,” he added.
He assured residents that he has taken charge and will ensure crime is stopped within Kisumu City.
He said installing powerful street lamps, increasing police officers on patrol and even collaborating with area residents to put to an end merciless killings, carjacking , rape and theft within Kisumu will help.
