Citizens in the informal settlements in Kisumu have raised alarm over poor of service delivery despite devolution of power and resources to the county level.
Kisumu informal settlement network chairman Eliasha Osanya said life in the informal settlements continues to worsen and the county government of Kisumu has failed to address the challenges affecting them.
Osanya said the living condition is not favorable despite the kind of funds being channeled to the slum areas for upgrading.
"People are living at the mercy of God within the slums yet we pay taxes. Donors and the national government also give funds to improve our lives, yet our situation is worsening," he said.
Osanya said the housing units are in deplorable conditions while the environment is pathetic exposing the residents to a number of diseases with no hospital to provide them with medication.
Addressing the press in Kisumu on Wednesday after holding a forum with the informal settlement residents, Osanya said giving services to the people is mandatory.
He said the county government is attracting a lot of funds from the donor community that should be able to change the lives in the informal settlements.
Osanya asked the county government to review salaries of its workers saying a lot of money meant for development is being spent on recurrent expenditures.
