The County government of Kisumu is finalising plans to set up a Business Process Outsourcing centre in Kisumu to boost economic development in the region.

Governor Jack Ranguma said Kisumu will be a leading global Information Communication Technology hub after the completion of the project.

Ranguma said the BPO will open up the region and offer numerous jobs to young people who are graduating from different institutions of higher learning.

He said the county has engaged a roving ambassador in charge of ICT to look for investors to enable the county to set up a BPO centre.

“My ambassador, Mr Kenneth Oyola is working round the clock to negotiate with Microsoft and Kyocera and other key leading IT institutions to set up the centre,” he said.

Speaking on Wednesday in Kisumu when he launched the e-Construction Permit System, Ranguma said there was enough infrastructure in place to support the BPO centre.

He said e-commerce will thrive in the region and boost revenue collection for the county government.

Ranguma said efforts were in place to rope in the diaspora team to look into ways of enhancing the technological know-how of the county.

“We have many residents of Kisumu in the outside world and Mr Oyola is looking on how to arrange a breakfast meeting with them to assist the county,” he said.

He said a BPO has enormous benefits and will make Kisumu the 'roaring tiger' of the new global economy in the region.
