A man in Kithimani area of Machakos County on Friday morning lost his life after being stabbed several times in his belly after a disagreement.
Jared Muchege, 27, a farmer from Kamatara village in Yatta Sub-County was on his way home from work, where he works as a night watchman, when he allegedly met his his friend turned foe, David Gitaka, 34, who is said to have stabbed him.
Confirming the incident, Kithimani Administration police boss, Johnston Anguya said the two engaged in a brief exchange of words after the deceased asked Gitaka to give a mobile phone he had allegedly taken from him, before they started fighting.
“Muchege was stabbed several times in his belly. The suspect was later apprehended after he fled the scene,” he said.
He added that they are still investigating the case to find tangible evidence against the accused as the knife used to stab the deceased has not been found.
“We are yet to find the dagger which was used to stab the deceased and we are interrogating him to reveal more information before we can arraign him in court,” the officer said.
The body of the deceased was taken to Matuu Level Four Hospital funeral home awaiting post mortem.
The police boss, who spoke through a phone interview, said that the cases of residents taking the law into their hands were on the increase.
