Workers at the Kenya Meat Commission's Athi River plant on Thursday threatened to down tools over a two-month salary delay.
Addressing the press at the plant, the employees through their spokesman Steven Kiilo, claimed they had not received their salaries for months of July and August.
"We are tired of these company's management trend, it has never paid us (workers) our salaries promptly as other companies in Mavoko do for their employees," said Kiilo.
Kiilo said most of the employees had been persevering for the two months as they had hopes that things would change for the better after the commissioners were replaced by the acting Agriculture CS, Aden Mohammed.
"Most of us persevered for the two months hoping that the newly appointed commissioners to the company would come with better changes," said Kiilo.
He said the workers have started running out of patience now that the commissioners have already settled in office yet their plight is yet to be addressed.
"We want to start seeing and experiencing the changes now that the new commissioners have taken over," said Kiilo.
The workers said that they had to hold protests to compel the management to take action fearing that they would fail to receive their payment for the third consecutive month (September).
The company's newly appointed managing commissioner, Joseph Learamo, who spoke to the press said the workers should be a little more patient as the newly appointed board got briefings from the company's management.
Learamo who expressed his confidence in steering the commission to profitability said the board will on Friday have a meeting with the workers to discuss their concerns including the delayed payments.
