The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Kisii Central branch has challenged the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) to seal exam leakage loopholes to protect the integrity of the national exams.
The branch's executive secretary Shem Nyaundi said the buck stops with KNEC when it comes to exam leakages being reported across the country during the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, arguing that the exam body is the chief custodian of the national exams.
Speaking to this writer on Thursday in Kisii town, Mr Nyaundi wondered how those suspected of selling exam papers got access to the papers yet they do not work with KNEC.
The teachers' union challenged KNEC to move swiftly and investigate how the exam papers, which he said are not printed in the country get to the streets across the country, compromising the quality of the exam results and grades.
"I am against the idea of KNEC shifting goal posts to other people over the scandal of KCSE exam leakages being reported in some parts of the country every year. Let KNEC come out clear on the issue and ensure the integrity of the the exams and certificates is secured and protected," he said.
Mr Nyaundi said it was ironical for the exam body to keep on castigating people selling national exam papers as leakages to candidates, yet the body was the one setting and organising marking of papers.
