A teacher's union official has faulted Education Cabinet Secretary Prof Jacob Kaimenyi's proposal to ban of mock exams in primary and secondary schools and instead replace them with internal exams.

Speaking in his office on Friday Wareng, Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Knut branch Executive Secretary Boor said Kaimenyis move was unconstitutional and that teachers were not ready to implement the directive.

"Prof Kaimenyi has created a lot of confusions in the Education ministry. It is high time he resigned from the post as he seems not to understand the education sector well," he said.

This week, Prof Kaimenyi banned mock examinations in public schools saying they were exerting pressure on students hence the frequent unrests in schools. He directed the county directors to ensure the order is effected.

However, Boor said the exams are aimed at gauging students performance.

"I urge all teachers in the country to continue with the mock exams since its the only avenue that will gauge how the school is performing compared to other zonal. Teachers should ignore that move. He did away with ranking of schools now mock exams ,we won't allow that,"said the unionist.
