Teachers from Yatta sub-county have been barred from the signing contract exercise by the Kenya National Union of Teachers in the area.
Speaking on Tuesday while addressing the residents of Yatta sub-county in Matuu, the Secretary general of Yatta Masinga KNUT branch Michael Kasimba Ngui called upon the head teachers of the Schools to pause the exercise as the issue needed more discussion between the KNUT and teachers Service Commission.
"We are shocked to see our teachers issued with performance contracts that they are supposed to sign while no agreement has been reached between the KNUT and teachers Service Commission. We are supposed to sit and discuss the contents of the contract," said Ngui.
He urged the teachers not to sign the papers before their representative seats together with the lawyers to get advice on the way forward.
However while speaking in a meeting in Matuu vision center on Tuesday, Yatta sub-county head of Education Elikana Nyaga stated the aim of the contract as a positive move to improve the quality of Education.
"My message for today is that while signing the performance contract you are supposed to know that it's neither intimidation nor fact finding but a way of programming oneself," said Nyaga.
