Lack of family planning in Lucigitti, Kikuyu Sub-County is cited as the main cause of poverty in the region according to family and parenting expert.
Speaking to Lucigitti residents on Wednesday, the family and parenting expert Dr. Alexander Muhingi said that the grassroots areas in Kenya were the most challenged with poverty as a result of lack of family planning.
Mr. Muhingi said that families should embrace family planning and that this will help reduce poverty among families in the area. He also said that as time is moving, families are now having two or even one child and that they are able to manage hence having the space to educate and feed them.
"I want to urge the residents here to embrace family planning methods. This message is mostly aimed at the youth so that they can change the phase of the community. The fight against poverty will also require family planning initiatives," said Muhingi.
He noted that the locals had a negative picture of family planning due to the myths they have heard from friends stating that they were all wrong. He urged them to visit health centres to get the correct advise from health officers and to avoid listening to rumours.
