Kibera residents have expressed their anger over the rising cases of burning garbage in open air.

On Tuesday, the angry residents said they are being affected by the practice which is common in the area.

“We have been affected very much by this bad practice which not only pollutes the environment but also affects our health. Salon people have always been burning their garbage in public which releases bad smell to people around them. The smoke also chokes which shows just how dangerous it is to people’s health,” said Koki Lichuma, a resident at Laini Saba.’

Some residents have complained that the garbage collection containers set up by the National Youth Service are very far and hence cannot walk all the way to dispose off their litter.

“I am in Laini Saba how will I access the container at DC area? It is very far, I cannot be moving to DC area every time to dispose of garbage. That is a waste of time,’’ said Betty Linnet.

Lichuma has urged fellow residents to be environment conscious by observing where they dispose off their litter and also shun burning it in public.

“I am disappointed when I see our beautiful decorated walls being darkened by soot that can be avoided,” he said.
