The government has started training three teachers in every public primary school in readiness for the rolling out of the laptop project for standard one pupils.

Speaking on Friday during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a laboratory at Workers High School in Nakuru North Sub-County, Bahati division education officer William Kodei said the three teachers include the school head. He has called on all stakeholders in the education sector to chip in their efforts in ensuring the success of the programme.

Kodei said: “For the last five years, we have seen an increase in the number of secondary schools to 16 from six in this area. I am appealing to parents to continue supporting initiatives started to boost learning among your children.”

Speaking at the same function, Bahati CDF chairman Anthony Njui, who also represented area MP Kimani Ngunjiri, said that during the last financial year, over 40 million shillings has been spent on education in the constituency.

“We are devoted to support the education of our children. CDF has built classrooms, laboratories and toilets and also given bursaries to students. In the next financial year, more funding will be directed towards the education sector,” Njui said.

He added that Sh7 million has been directed towards roads repair in the constituency.

“Were it not for CDF, all these developments would not have been achieved. I urge all Kenyans to support retention of CDF because if it is scrapped as the high court had directed earlier, wananchi are going to suffer more,” he said.

The chairman said that CDF will fund the construction of the laboratory at a cost of Sh2.8 million with Sh1.2 million already disbursed in the first phase.
