Thika MP and Hospital Ward MCA Mwangi Wamwangi on Thursday joined pupils and teachers of Moi Academy in a memorial service of two pupils who died in an accident last week.
The group matched through Thika Town and camped at Blue Post Hotel where the accident occurred, laying wreaths to pay respect to the deceased.
During the event, residents mourned the children called for an end to tragic accidents that have allegedly increased on Thika roads.
Area traffic police officers were forced to intervene to end a two-hour traffic congestion that was caused by the matching group, making it hard for the vehicles to move to and from Thika Ttown.
The residents later joined other mourners at the school grounds where they held a memorial service for the two before they are laid down to rest today (Friday) and Saturday respectively in their respective homes.
Speaking at the service, Wamwangi said that there is need to ensure that drivers are well trained and that vehicles are roadworthy as the accidents are increasing at a high rate.
He added that he has partnered with the area MP to ensure the roads leading to and from Thika are rehabilitated.
