Leaders across Nyamira County have been urged to stop giving the youth daily handouts, and instead create jobs for them or guide them on how they can sustain themselves.
According to Stanley Ongaga, a village elder in Makairo area in Nyamira south Sub county, area leaders have the tendency of visiting and giving the youth some small handouts instead of creating jobs for them .
“Leaders should focus more on empowering residents to make them self reliant instead of making them their daily beggars,” said Ongaga.
He condemned a recent occurrence in Makairo, where some elected leaders allegedly gave out handouts to youths, who ended up fighting and injuring themselves.
He further urged all leaders to stop the idea of issuing cash hand-outs, as a way of ending the culture of lazy youths in the county who wait to be spoon fed.
“Let the elected leaders come up with projects and project ideas that will empower the youth economically, and also give them a brighter future, let them have a long term focus,” he added.
Ongaga further called on area youth to always remain focused and stop drug abuse, so that they can achieve what they want in life
