Farmers in Bonchari sub-county have been urged to support and cooperate with field livestock development officers entrusted with the task of sensitising farmers on how to improve the production of their animals.
Addressing farmers in Suneka town on Monday during the launch of a livestock vaccination programme, sub-county agricultural officer Julius Nyandoro called on farmers to ensure their animals were attended to by genuine county government staff.
He also said there was information that there were people impersonating livestock officers with the intention of collecting money from innocent farmers after using fake drugs to vaccinate and treat their animals.
The officer dismissed information going round that farmers were supposed to pay Sh150 for every domestic animal attended to during the exercise, saying the set cost was Sh50 per animal, adding that farmers were not required to pay officers their subsistence, as such logistics had already been taken care of by the office.
Nyandoro made it clear to the farmers that all divisions in the sub-county had been allocated an adequate number of officers according to the area to be covered, and the population of animals to be attended to.
He further encouraged farmers to be aggressive enough to ensure officers visiting their homes displayed their badges, saying all genuine officers carrying out the exercise were expected to wear Kisii County government branded badges.
