Farmers in Kiambu county have been urged to support and cooperate with field livestock development officers entrusted with the task of sensitising farmers on how to improve the production of their animals.

Speaking during the launch of a livestock vaccination program in Karibaribi farm on Saturday, the Thika West Sub-County livestock officer and the program administrator Jackline Muthoni also called on farmers to ensure their animals were attended to by a genuine county government staff.

"There is information that a few people are planning to impersonate livestock officers with the intention of collecting money from innocent farmers after using fake drugs to vaccinate and treat their animals," she confirmed.

She dismissed information going round that farmers were supposed to pay Kshs. 200 for every domestic animal attended during the exercise saying that the set cost was Kshs. 100 per animal adding that farmers were not required to pay officers their subsistence as such logistics had already been taken care of by the office.

"All divisions in this Sub-County have been allocated adequate number of officers according to the area to be covered and the population of animals to be attended to," she added.

Muthoni further encouraged farmers to be aggressive enough to ensure that the officers visiting their homes displayed their badges saying all genuine officers carrying out the exercise were expected to wear Kiambu county government branded badges.
